Cala

BRIEF:

Deliver a modern and contemporary food and beverage experience for the iconic Winston Hills Hotel.

EXPERIENCE:

Respecting the hotel’s existing mid-century and Japanese-inspired architecture, we preserved most of the original floors and layout. Nostalgic design elements – like the original Frank Lloyd Wright wall lights – were retained and served as inspiration for the structural forms throughout the interiors. The existing fireplace was also preserved and enhanced, creating intimate, fire-side cocoons for guests to enjoy.

The space tells the story of a worldly muse – a glamorous traveller who collects objet d’art and stories from across the globe. Her love of Asian-fusion and mid-century design weaves its way through the venue, reflecting her passions for music, fashion, art, and cuisine.

Cala is a space to revel in indulgence, where rich flavours and sparkling moments meet, and tales of adventures are shared.

Taffy’s 3.0

BRIEF:

Revitalise a faded pub and create a vibrant indoor-outdoor Sports Bar; the ultimate destination to catch every major sporting event, imbued with the quintessential Taffy’s energy.

EXPERIENCE:

Set within the leafy backdrop of Winston Hills Hotel, Taffy’s 3.0 channels rock ‘n’ roll, cuffed denim and James Dean-cool.
Blending an American diner aesthetic with a bold red, white, and powder blue palette, Taffy’s 3.0 mixes nostalgia with modern flair. Retro-style seating, a curved main bar, and illuminated lightbox signs are accented by Taffy’s signature graphic murals.

Taffy’s lounge area offers prime seating for sports fans; a laid-back spot to catch every play on the giant screens. When Friday night rolls around, the atmosphere shifts as the house DJ turns the space into a buzzing dance floor.

Taffy’s also boasts an inviting outdoor dining area fitted with large screens, where guests can enjoy their meals without ever missing a moment of the game.

Dim Joy House

BRIEF:

Design a modern Asian-fusion and yum cha restaurant that brings families together, blending tradition and culture with a fresh, contemporary dining experience.

EXPERIENCE:

Dim Joy House is shaped by an interplay of modern design and Asian influences.

Intricate timber panelling interweaves with ornate wallpaper, while ceilings pay homage to the awnings found in traditional Buddhist temples.

Feng Shui principles guide our design, including the tranquil water feature at the restaurant’s entrance; a symbol of beauty and tranquillity.

Rich tones of jade and ruby red are meaningfully scattered through the space, appearing in both furniture and finishes to evoke luck and prosperity.

Patrons can choose to dine beneath paper lantern-style pendants in the main dining area or enjoy the intimacy of the private bookable rooms.

The interior is defined by a layered, textural palette, bringing warmth and sophistication to every corner.

Taffy’s 2.0

Situated on the Central Coast, Taffy’s 2.0 is little brother to the popular Taffy’s Sports Bar in Sydney.
This iconic venue’s next generation embraces the same ethos – a boldly graphic, packs-a-punch sports bar that enhances the buzz and rowdiness of a good match and is all about celebrating game time.

The bar boasts 2 large screens and main event areas for the crowd, alongside 50’s diner–inspired private booths with their own viewing screens. To complement the experience and encourage feelings of nostalgia, the materiality and palette was inspired by an acid-wash of 50’s sporting colours and the mustards and reds of a game-side hot dog.

Even empty, the bar captures a rowdy and loud atmosphere befitting a sports celebration through graphic murals that compete deliberately with patterned floors and fabrics.
All surfaces provide opportunity for excitement and discussion. Collaborations with graphic artist and mural artists transform the venue into a painted canvas. It’s an immersive experience that matches the colour and movement of a game in play.

Taffy’s 2.0 provides the Central Coast with its only true sports bar, offering patrons a completely new experience in the area – blending the excitement of a good night out with the comfort of a good night in.

Mrs May

Situated directly on The Entrance channel, Mrs May is an indoor-outdoor coast-side paradise. Named after Mrs May Loftus, it honours the bravery and passion of Mrs May and other pioneers of female surf lifesaving and swimming.

Mrs May promises to surprise and delight, elegantly fusing both Art Deco and 70’s architectural, fashion and design elements to form a timeless aesthetic worthy of the surrounding natural beauty. It captures the relaxed but forceful ebb and flow of the nearby tides, inviting patrons to dip their toes in and explore, marvel and wonder. Adorned with nature-inspired creativity and art, beauty is never far away.

All eyes are drawn to the heart of the venue – the gleaming central hub situated under an existing skylight – which has been transformed into a sculptural display. Coastal and ocean elements have been combined by a textile artist to create a form reminiscent of rockpool creatures and art deco forms. Collaborations with mural artists, sculptors and textile designers work together to transform the venue into an artform.

With indoor and outdoor spaces, the venue takes full advantage of its spectacular setting, anchored in the world around it and providing the central coast with a truly ‘by the ocean’ food and beverage offering.

Lady Banks

BRIEF

Create a modern and inviting rooftop bar that honours the history of the destination and complements the surrounding views.

EXPERIENCE

Lady Banks is a multi-seasonal sanctuary, inspired by the horizon and heritage of the Bankstown destination.

As the area’s only Rooftop bar, the venue boasts 360-degree panoramic views that capture the impressive Sydney skyline to the Blue Mountains. The indoor and outdoor space provides year-round opportunities to soak up the sites in relaxed comfort.

Named for the Lady Banks rose, the venue is proudly connected to the area’s history – the rose being named after Lady Dorothea Banks, wife of botanist and Bankstown namesake, Sir Joseph Banks.

Fittingly, the bar balances a modern and playful rooftop bar experience while paying homage to its muse, the beautiful and elegant rose. Climbing roses and references to floral forms connect the story of the venue to its physical space, culminating in a relaxed and approachable atmosphere. Meanwhile, the muted and honest finishes selections seamlessly balance both summer and winter aspects, providing the ultimate rooftop reprieve for its patrons.

The Growers Shoalhaven

BRIEF:
TO CREATE A CONTEMPORARY AND CASUAL INDOOR-OUTDOOR BAR AND EATERY, EMBRACING THE SOUTH COAST LIFESTYLE; WHERE COAST MEETS COUNTRY.

EXPERIENCE:
SITUATED AMONGST ROLLING HILLS AND WITH A HINT OF THE SEA IN THE AIR, THE GROWERS FEELS LIKE A BEACH-SIDE HOLIDAY, BUT ONE THAT IS STEADFASTLY COUNTRY, REMINDING US OF OUR RURAL AUSTRALIAN SETTING.

Alala’s

BRIEF

Capture the essence of spring – an elegant garden conservatory space that pays tribute to a 70-year old oak tree.

EXPERIENCE

Fronting onto the iconic tree that gives the Oaks Hotel its name, Alala’s brings the outside in.

Custom sandstone tiles surrounding the bar echo the sandstone garden beds outside while the varied and textured stone flooring guides guests through the space.

The original 1930’s bar layout has been brought to life. Parisian-style seating invites guests to nestle into sumptuous creamy cognac leather seating nooks.

Lemon hues signal springtime and invoke aromatics from the cocktail bar. It’s an Art Deco inspired haven – the perfect spot to enjoy a long summer lunch or an al fresco afternoon of cocktails.

Taffy’s Sports Bar

BRIEF

Curate the authentic sports bar Sydney’s been waiting for: the hang out so enjoyable it beats being at the game.

EXPERIENCE

From the use of sporting colours to the design materials that echo sporting stadiums, Taffy’s celebrates the game experience.

It’s kitsch that’s cool; there’s something everywhere you look. A life-sized Richie Benaud will greet you as you head toward the bar decorated with novelty beer taps. Giant foosball tables and arcade-style basketball hoops stand alongside the big game screens.

It’s the ultimate man cave reminiscent of ‘the cool brother’s room’, where everyone wants to be, and something is always happening.

The Oaks Bottle Shop & Take Away

BRIEF

Create a unique space that’s part bottle shop, part local diner – where the love of home cooked food and local craft beverages shines through.

EXPERIENCE

An homage to simpler times, the Bottle Shop references the past while catering for the modern consumer. It’s old-school chippy meets bespoke retail offering, and it works.

Leveraging existing architectural elements and original detailing, the retro furniture and powder blue and burgundy accents emanate the welcoming charm of an old school milk bar.

Rich dark timbers and hidden seating nooks inject a level of exclusive sophistication reminiscent of a speakeasy.

The inviting food area flows seamlessly into the clean, lightly industrial retail space –the ultimate go-to for brews and a quick bite.
